NBPA Special Victims Symposium

The Special Victims Symposium, previously known as the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Forum, demonstrates the NBPA's commitment to addressing the wide range of crimes that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, particularly within the Black community. While our initial focus was on domestic violence and sexual assault, we have expanded our scope to include human trafficking, child abuse, elder abuse, animal cruelty, and other forms of victimization. This change was prompted by the increasing recognition that these crimes are often interconnected and require a multidisciplinary approach for prevention, investigation, and prosecution.

Held annually as a one-day event during our national conference, the Special Victims Symposium gathers experts, practitioners, and advocates to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and best practices in serving special victim populations. By broadening our focus, we aim to provide attendees with a more comprehensive understanding of these complex issues and the necessary tools to seek justice for all victims.
